Museum am Strom overlooks the riverside promenade and features exhibits on the Romanticism movement that swept the Rhine Valley in the 18th century. The museum occupies a former power station and also gets you up to speed on the town’s fascinating past. Highlights include the Bingen Doctor’s Set featuring scalpels and saws owned by an ancient Roman surgeon.

Day trip down the river to Bacharach, one of the prettiest villages on the Rhine. Behind the 14th-century walls, you’ll find a labyrinth of winding cobbled streets lined with half-timbered buildings. Walk up to the centuries-old castle for spectacular views over the village.
